Brandi Carlile & Dolly Parton Made Me Cry

It happened all of 48 hours ago but my facebook, twitter, and texts have been blowing up since Saturday with excited queers the country round asking if I’d seen it yet. The legendary Dolly Parton made a surprise appearance at the Newport Folk Festival this past weekend. She performed with The Highwomen, she performed with… well just about every lady singer in attendance for a rowdy rendition of ‘9 to 5,’ and she performed an epic version of ‘I Will Always Love You’ as a duet with the iconic lesbian country singer Brandi Carlile. I got to watch some of the performances as they rolled in from the various audience smartphones in attendance – and I won’t lie – ‘9 to 5’ made me smile like a kid again. However today I finally got to see the duet, and while I’ve been hearing that song for my entire life – this performance – made me cry like a baby. Full of love, passion, and just an incredible amount of pathos and talent. My friends – may I present to you – Dolly Parton and Brandi Carlile performing ‘I Will Always Love You.’
