Caught In the Act: Cassandra Lewis in San Francisco

Text and Photography by Chris Bogard

Cassandra Lewis recently embarked on a mini tour along the west coast, aptly titled the ‘Stoop Du Jour Tour,’ which included a handful of small shows scattered throughout the Bay Area. I had the opportunity to attend her secret show in San Francisco, produced by A Lovely Day Productions, and take some photographs of the evening.

It was an intimate affair in a small eclectic space, with the floor covered in sundry vintage rugs and surrounded by a hodgepodge of quasi-retro décor. The crowd settled in comfortably, stretched out on the floor with pillows and libations, for the BYOB ‘pop-up’ event.

The show kicked off with a performance by Trevor Bahnson, Lewis’ bandmate and collaborator on her upcoming album. Along with a couple friends, Lewis joined Bahnson on stage for a few songs before she took over, playing songs from her recent album Always, All Ways with Bahnson remaining onstage to accompany her on guitar.

Lewis brought along Santa Cruz drag duo Cherry Cola and Franzia Rosé for a mid-show act; the pair was clad in western garb for a lip-sync shoutout to Shania Twain.

A Honky-Tonk of Our Own

After plenty of banter and mezcal from the bottle, the concert rounded out with Graham Patzner joining Lewis and Brahnson on stage—violin in hand—for an even more dynamic musical feast for the senses.
