Blake Haney Makes Impressive Queer Country Debut
Blake Haney released “Bottle Rockets, Booze, & Boys”and it is currently #29 on the iTunes Country chart, impressive for a self-released debut. The breezy 5 song EP serves up country vibes in the lane of Lee Ann Womack and Guy Clark as well as an openly gay southern journey. Haney is originally from Red Bank, TN but has been in Nashville for the last 3 years working on his debut. Recorded with Sean Trainor in an East Nashville home studio, the EP sounds mature beyond his years. As far as deciding how honest he should be about who he is in a traditionally conservative genre, Haney says “No hesitancy whatsoever. I’d spent long enough in the closet to not be who I am. Representation is important and I try to live by the phrase, “Be who you needed when you were younger.” Blake Haney joins an impressive ground swell of the emerging “queer country” genre with the likes of Karen and the Sorrows, Lavender Country, Ryan Cassata and others.
