“Sol y Soledad,” All-Star Collab From Gina Chavez and Las Migas

We’re fortunate to get an early peek at “Sol y Soledad,” a gorgeous bilingual – and international – collaboration between Latin Grammy nominees Gina Chavez, of Austin, and Las Migas, of Barcelona, Spain. The collab is part of a series presented by Folk Alliance International and Chris Thile for COVID relief.
“I’ve been enamorada with Las Migas from Spain for a long time,” Chavez told us. “So when Folk Alliance invited me to be part of a Artists in Their Residence, I jumped on the opportunity to work with them! ‘Sol y Soledad’ explores what it means to hold multiple truths at once: the miracle of awaking to a new sunrise and breath in our lungs, while the heartache of being alone presses upon our chests.” Chavez added, “Creativity and collaborations like this have truly been a light in the darkness for me during the pandemic. We are made to be in community and I’m grateful Las Migas are now part of mine.”
Chavez has performed on Stephen Colbert and is a 2020 Latin Grammy nominee. Her NPR Tiny Desk concert has more than a million views and she is featured on Brené Brown’s new podcast, “Unlocking Us,” for which she co-wrote the theme music.
Las Migas (Bego Salazar, Marta Robles, Alicia Grillo, and Roser Loscos) were nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards 2017 for their album “Vente Conmigo” in the Best Flamenco Album category.
