CQ’s ‘Sip & Spin’ Video Series Asks, “Can You Really Pair A Wine With An Album?”

Aimsel Ponti

Country Queer is poised to launch a new video series, Sip & Spin, centered around the unique idea of pairing a wine with an album. Host Aimsel Ponti, music writer for the Portland Maine Press-Herald, is joined by wine expert Liz Rubin, and together they embark on a lively pairing journey. The results are surprising!

The series was produced by Country Queer’s publisher, Dale Henry Geist, and directed by Clio Award-winning filmmaker Lauren Tabak. The location, a barn at Five Springs Farm in Sonoma County, California, lends an earthy feel to what could’ve otherwise been a highfalutin exercise.

Geist says, “I feel extremely lucky to be working with Aimsel, Liz, and Lauren on this project – consummate pros who really understood what we were trying to do and made it come alive.” He adds, “The first five episodes feature a wine label that will be familiar to some CQ readers – and that’s all I’m gonna say. Stay tuned and you’ll find out.” (Or get a sneak peek at Episode 1 when you sign up for CQ’s email list.)

Ponti says, “Working on Sip & Spin has been a blast – Liz is super fun and knowledgeable, Dale had a clear vision, and Lauren is an absolute rock star filmmaker.”

Rubin adds, “I think it’s palpable how great the rapport is between Aimsel and me. We’re having fun and it shows.”

Episode 1 of Sip & Spin is scheduled to premiere on Thursday, June 30th (“It was important to us to get this out to the public during Pride,” said Geist. “You’ll see why.”) It will be available exclusively on countryqueer.com.
