QueerCuts: Mercy Bell

In the world of indie music in America folks often ask each other how they find new music. The radio is all payola, the internet is all algorithms, and word of mouth often tends to just pass the same artists around over and over. This is about the time when I get so excited about the great equalizer and elevator that is NPR’s Tiny Desk Content. Not because of the winner (who are usually amazing), but because it gets indie artists around the whole country to sit down and intentionally make a pretty damn good live video – if you go down the youtube rabbit hole of submissions you are going to see a whole lot of talent.

Which is how we come to today’s QueerCut artist – Mercy Bell. With a voice reminiscent of Gillian Welch and lyrics that remind me of a Mary Gauthier / Lucinda Williams hybrid – she will absolutely capture your imagination and find a place on that good old Desert Songs playlist that we all have.

She is self described as an Americana & folk musician. Nashville by way of Brooklyn and Massachusetts and California and Arkansas. Most recently she graced the stage at Nashville Pride. Get ready to fall in love.
